Ten Months

On your ten month birthday...
Your stats:
Weight: 15 lbs 14 oz

Height: 27 1/4 inches

Diapers: Size 3

Clothes: You are in mostly 6-12 months.

Sleep: Wake around 6:30 and you are in bed by 8 at the latest.  You have dropped a nap and now have one morning nap and one afternoon nap.  Usually one of them is about 2 hours.

Feeding: You nurse about 4 times a day and eat meat, veggies, fruit, cheerios, cheese, eggs, yogurt, waffles, applesauce, quinoa, couscous, etc.  It is getting easier to feed you because you can pretty much have whatever we eat!  You love most foods, but seem to get tired of them quickly. You definitely like a variety at each meal.

What you are up to:

-You went on your first vacation (Mom and Dad's 5 year anniversary) to Ft. Worth, Texas.  We took you to the Ft. Worth Zoo which was an all around hit! It was beautiful, not crowded and the animals where very engaging!  I think your favorite animal was probably the penguins...you just laughed and clapped and kept trying to touch them through the glass.  You also got to go on a train for the first time and pet Ollie the horse.  We had a great time and you slept well for your first time in a hotel!

-You went to your first parade! Edmond's 4th of July parade!

-You sat up by yourself from laying down July 10th.

-First Farmer's Market trip.

-You started crawling!!! Your first official crawl was July 16th!  For a few days, the only thing you would crawl for was your toothbrush. :)

-You finger painted for the first time!

-You pulled up to standing by yourself!

-You LOVE to play peek-a-boo!  Every time you cover your "eyes" it somewhere different on your head (ears, cheeks, forehead)...but you are starting to be a little more consistent and accurate with covering your eyes.

-You "flap your wings" when we read about the bird in your book.

-You put your arms up when we say "touchdown".  (Daddy had to make sure you were ready for football season.)

-You have realized you can laugh on your own will (without being tickled).  Now you laugh just to hear yourself laugh or to get someones attention. It is pretty cute. :)

-Your hair is OUT OF CONTROL!!!  You won't keep a bow, ponytail, or clip in so it is always in your face!

-Daddy bought you your first cowgirl hat in Ft. Worth.

-You kiss EVERYTHING!

-Toward the end of July we went to the lake for a week with the Schnorrenberg clan. We all had a great time! You, of course, loved every second of being with your big cousins!!

Happy 10 months Harper Jo.

You are simply the best.

Seven Months

On your seven month birthday...
Your stats:

Weight: 14 lbs 6 oz (not exact since we didn't go to the Dr. this month)

Height: 27 inches (again, not exact)

Diapers: Size 2

Clothes: I have put up almost all of your 0-3, except for some sleepers.  You are wearing anything from 3-6 months to 6-12 months! (of course, the latter are a smidge huge on you...but I get anxious about your new clothes)

Sleep: Still the same, with an 8 o'clock bedtime and waking between 6:30-7.

Feeding: You are still nursing 5-6 times a day. On top of nursing you are starting to eat, well, pretty much anything and everything (except sweets, honey, and peanut butter)!  You love yogurt, cheese, veggies, fruit, chicken, steak, pork, cheerios, and applesauce.  You are not a picky eater at all!!  It has been so exciting! Watching you chew is one of our favorite things to do. You look hilariously cute and really get into it.

What you are up to:

-You still LOVE your fabric dolls

-You realized what I was trying to do when I would tap your mouth when you coo...now you coo and I tap your mouth to make the "ah ah ah ah" noise and you love it! You used to stop cooing anytime I would tap your mouth.

-You squeal like a pig when you're upset/you want to be picked up or played with

-You got mad/jealous when Roman was playing and chewing on your doll! So it starts this young, huh??

-On April 9th, you started babbling "dada"

-You got your first rash from eating red grapes

-You sit in your highchair now like a big girl

-You spent one full day this month figuring out how to "cluck" with your tounge...you have it down now!

-Your mode of transportation is rolling...anywhere and everywhere!

-On April 21, Papa and Grammi took you on your very first boat ride! Momma and Daddy were out kayaking on the lake and you, Grammi, Papa and Uncle Bobo came zipping up to us in the boat! You loved the ride, but didn't care too much for the lifejacket that swallowed you.

-You also enjoyed riding around on the golf cart at the lake. You laughed anytime we went over a big bump.

-You love when I hide from you and pop out and say "boo!"

-You are beginning to recognize people you've seen before

-On April 5, you had your first real meal. Garlic chicken, avocado and cheese.

-April 8th was your first Easter.  You wore a salmon pink ruffley dress that had tiny white polka dots on it. You also enjoyed your first grilled steak!!

-On April 14, we drove almost 3 hours to the lake house because of the possibility of severe weather headed our way. We would normally go to the hospital and stay underground, but they weren't allowing people to do that this time.  We didn't get the bad weather, of course, but it was better to be safe than sorry!

- I painted your toenails for the first time...that was a disaster. We'll leave it at that.

-You went to your very first birthday party!!! Anabelle Pennington turned one! Daddy took you because I had a photography class to go to.  You both had a great time!

On April 30, you figured out the concept of clapping!! How exciting!! You are learning lots of new things!!

Happy 7 months Harper Jo.

Daddy and I are trying to soak it all up.

We love you.

Six Months

On your six month birthday...
Your stats:

Weight: 13 lbs 5 oz (6th %tile)

Height: 26 inches (58th %tile)

Head Circumference: 16th %tile

Diapers: Size 2

Clothes: Mainly 3-6, but still some 0-3 and a few 9 months (because I get antsy to try new things on you) :)

Sleep: Still the same, with a 8 o'clock bedtime and waking usually between 6:30-7.

Feeding: You are still nursing 5-6 times a day and eating one fruit and one veggie a day. You just started trying dissovable foods like puffs and MumMums! You are definitely a fan!

What you are up to:

-You can sit up by yourself (as of March 19th)! (We still put a pillow behind you, but you are doing really well!)

-You laugh at things that are funny to you now, not just when you are tickled.

-You had your first St. Patty's day.

-You got your first tooth on March 20th while Daddy was TDY in Alabama.

-You LOVE to play peek-a-boo.

-You still LOVE your fabric dolls more than any other stuffed animal.

-On your 6 month birthday, Momma got really sick and Daddy was gone. It was NO fun, but you didn't seem to mind. Luckily, we celebrated the day before since I had to work on the 28th. I got you a Minnie Mouse from the Disney Store. You were more interested in her silky tag than Minnie herself, which doesn't suprise me. :)

-You are starting to be bashful.

-When I get you out of your crib, you kick your legs so hard in excitement that you bounce yourself off the mattress!

-While you're nursing, you hit your head (more like punch your head) over and over. I have to hold your hand so you won't. It seems like it would hurt you, but you never even flinch!

-Your hair is getting longer and your bald spot in the back is starting to fill back in! Your little bangs get curly/wavy when you sweat...its SO cute!

-Daddy was gone for 12 days this month, but we survived! We missed him so much! He was working hard for us while he was away.

-You babble alot now, almost as if you are having conversations.

-You play a game where you say "eh" and we mimic you and then you mimic us, etc. You think it is quite funny.

-When you nurse, you always try to sneak your index finger in to suck on too...no matter how many times I pull it out, you keep trying! I guess persistance will be a good thing when you are older!! ;)

Happy 6 months Harper Jo.

What a blessing you have made them.

We love you.

Five Months

On your five month birthday...
Your stats:
Weight: 13 lbs 8 oz
Height: 25 inches
Diapers: Size 2
Clothes: You can still wear some 0-3 months, but you are mostly in 3-6 months and a few 6-9 months...mainly just sleepers though.
Sleep: Completely the same as your 4 month update. (bedtime at 8 and usually awake by 6:30 or 7)
Feeding:You still nurse every 3-4 hours AND you eat one pureed fruit and one pureed veggie everyday!

What you are up to:

-You have learned how to blow raspberries. It is SO cute! After you do it, you suck your bottom lip in, tilt your head back and look at me as if you were saying "Was that funny Momma?".

- You had pureed green beans for the first time on February 5th. You weren't too sure of the texture and made this funny little continuous "ahhh" sound in between each bite. You are a pro now! You had your first fruit (pears) on February 21st. So far, you've tried green beans, sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, butternut squash, yellow squash, apples, bananas and pears. I think your favorites are peas, sweet potatoes and apples.

-Aunt Tiffany watched you for the first time on February 7th while I went to the dentist. She was your first babysitter!! You slept and cried pretty much the whole time. I think you are still in your phase of "only Mommy and Daddy will work". Someday you will beg to go to Aunt Tiffany's!

-Sometimes you and Daddy dance around your room before bedtime. It is precious!

-Drum roll please............You made it through your first full Sunday of nursery without having to be paged!! Even the nursery workers were ecstatic for you! They said it was like a flip switched because you didn't cry at all! We were so proud that I immediately wrote in your baby book when we got home! We will see if this continues! :)

-You had your first Valentine's Day. We always say that everyday should be Valentine's day, so we don't normally do much. This year was a little different. Daddy got you your first rose and a really sweet card. Momma got you a card, too! Daddy gave me flowers and Lady and the Tramp on DVD because I have never watched it all the way through. I gave him a ring of 52 cards giving him 52 reasons why I love him. Daddy grilled steak and Momma made chocolate cheesecake. It was one of the sweetest times we've had with you so far. We took a long time to enjoy our dinner in, read our cards and soak up time as a family before we put you too bed. I can still picture it...cards, flowers, glasses of wine, the bumbo, laughter, tears, a pacifier, the DVD, the 52 love cards, white dinner plates with only the juice of the steak left, a toy or two to keep you occupied...all decorating our table. It has left such a vivid snapshot in my mind.

-Daddy and I went on our first date night without you. We put you to bed and then Ashlee came over while we enjoyed a nice dinner at Genghis Grill. Yum!

-Anytime you are laying on your back, you immediately put your toes in your mouth! (I think you are starting to teeth.)

-You still love Big Momma Duck and the Devil song. If you are screaming and we start to sing either of those songs, you almost always calm down instantly until the song is over...then you go back to crying unless we start again. It is commical!

-You saw Ron Paul when we went to his Campaign Rally at the Capitol.

-This was also your first leap year!

-You are trying to figure out how to get things that are in front of you. If you see something you want, you automatically start raising both of your arms like a zombie and your eyes get really big until we give it to you.

-If you hear a loud noise while your nursing, you normally stop nursing and turn your head toward me until I tell you its okay or smile. Once you feel confident that all is okay, you go back to nursing.

We love you, baby squirrel!

Four Months

On your four month birthday...

Your stats:

Weight: 12 lbs 3 oz
Height: 24.5 inches
(I guessing your three month stats are off quite a bit because I did them at home and they are almost exactly what you were at your four month checkup)

Diapers: still size 1

Clothes: a good mix between 0-3 months and 3-6, but we are slowly putting up all your 0-3's

Sleep: you still go to bed at 8 and usually sleep until I have to get you up to go to work at 6:30 (babysitting Roman) or about 7:30 on the days I don't work. Some nights you whine here in there because you get out of your swaddler, but you always fall back to sleep pretty quick.

Feeding: you still eat about every 3-4 hours, but we don't do the 11 pm dream feed anymore

What you are up to:

-You are doing well at tummy time, rolling over, and you don't look like a bobble head anymore when you sit in your Bumbo

-We see lots of smiles and hear lots of coos and a few laughs! When you are sleepy you have this sweet tired coo that melts our hearts and makes me want to scoop you up and cuddle you until you fall asleep

-You have started sucking in your lower lip, it's pretty funny

-When you smile, you still the tip of your little tounge out

-When we read books, you try to grab onto the pages

-You have started to suck your sweet little thumb

-The only time you want your paci is during nap time

-Your favorite toys are your two new fabric dolls you got for Christmas and Sophie the giraffe (your teether)

-When we pick you up and raise you in the air over our head, you wiggle your entire body in excitement and usually put your hands straight in your mouth for some reason

-You smile at strangers, which makes you pretty popular when we go out :)

-You LOVE music

-You LOVE to be sung to (we sing Big Momma Duck and the Devil song mostly...just in case you were wondering, both songs are ones that Gigi used to sing to Daddy...the Devil song is one that tells you not to let the devil in your little heart)

-Our good friends (Nate, Anna, and Paisley) gave us a Zoo pass for Christmas and we went for the first time on January 29th...the weather was SO nice! Thanks N, A and P!!

-You wore your first pair of jeans this month...you looked like such a big girl

-Rolling over...sometimes

-Tummy time is getting better and better

Another nickname: Harper Jo Jo

Feeding schedule: (this may be super boring to any readers out there, but I'd like to have it documented for our next baby, Lord willing. That way, since this is working well, I will have some sort of something to go by...and yes, I know that our next baby might need a totally different schedule ;) )

-everytime after you yawn (or sometimes halfway through a yawn), you let out a short "ah!"...it's pretty cute

-when Daddy tries to comfort you or calm you down he says "Okay, Okay, Okay, we're bouncin, Okay, yep, we're bouncin, Okay, Okay, Okay"...all in a sweet voice...it melts my heart, I'm not sure why, but it just does

-we made your first Christmas ornament with your sweet little handprint :)

One Month

I know...once again, I'm very late on posting this. As always, better late than never!

On your one month birthday...

Your stats:

Weight: 8 lbs. 6 oz.

Height: 21 inches

Diapers: newborn (so teensy...although her little legs are chunking up and we will be switching to size 1 soon...sigh) and size small cloth diapers

Sleeping during the night: feeding at 10 pm, 3 am, and then we wake up with a feeding at 8 am (she's a pretty good sleeper, thanks Harpster!)

Oh, nicknames!: Harpster and Harpo (not to be confused with the whole Oprah backwards thing, gag)...however, I usually just call her Harper or Harper Jo

Feeding schedule: 8 am, 11am, 2 or 3 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm, 10 pm...approximately 20 minutes each feed. You have been a great eater from the day you were born, thanks for cooperating! I was worried about that! By the way, I LOVE feeding you! It amazes me and brings me joy knowing that God created women in such a way that they would be able to supply something so wonderful for their children. Thank you, Lord, for that blessing!

What you are up to:

-You just started cooing and smiling really big after you eat or when I go in to get you in the mornings...you are such a happy baby! I can't get enough of it! Also, so far, you pretty much just smile in the morning, but it seems like you always save a few for Daddy! Thank you!! It means so much to him and always tells you that it was the best part of his day. So sweet.

-You LOVE, I mean LOVE getting your hair washed!...on the other hand, you aren't much of a fan of getting your body washed.

-When you fill your diaper, well, let's just say the whole house can hear it. In fact, even though we have now heard it probably one hundred times, it still startles Daddy and I sometimes. (We'll have to work on being more lady like, but for now its pretty darn cute!)

-Speaking of that, you also have the cutest burps!!

-You are doing great at tummy time! At first it was pretty scary, especially for Daddy. You are doing so much better at turning your head from side to side now!

-You are a peaceful shopper, so far anyway!!

-You went to the gym with me for the first time on your one month birthday! Everyone was so impressed by how good you were and loved seeing you! (Don't worry, no one gets to hold you when we go AND my hands feel like sandpaper after we leave for as many times as I stop to wash my hands or sanitize the machines and the handle of your carseat.) Oh, and I never put you near free weights or under any ceiling fans...a nice elderly man was nervous one day when I had you under a fan...he said "be careful with her under that fan, I wouldn't want it to fall on her"...sweet guy, I guess he's had a bad experience with a fan falling off the ceiling.

-Roscoe LOVES you. He is always worried about you if you are crying or if I am patting your back to burp you. Oh, and I always know when your diaper is dirty (if for some reason I didn't hear it), because he'll continoulsy sniff your bum. Thanks Roscoe!

-You have a certain "bird face" that we absolutely love...along with about 100 other expressive facial expressions you have. We are really enjoying getting to know you.

-You were a sweet little pink bunny for your first Halloween. We went to PF Changs to eat with Uncle Bobo and Auntie S.

-You have done well at church, except last week, you were a little fussy in Sunday School, but its just because you are starting to sleep less and are more aware of the things around you!

Harper, we have loved EVERY second of getting to know you and thank God for giving you specifically to us. I know I probably missed something...but really, we have such an overwhelming love for you. Not that we will ever understand the abundance of love that Christ has for His children, but we have talked recently about how we feel like we understand just a teensy bit more now.

By the way, perfect timing, I just heard you fill your diaper over the monitor...sounds like you are ready to get up!

Harper's Birth Story

Harper is a month old TOMORROW!!!

I know I am a little late on her birth story, but better late than never, I suppose!

**Okay-I could give you the version that I wrote in her baby book, but that may take more time than I have before she wakes from her slumber...SO, here is a short and sweet, condensed version.

We had our 40 week appointment on Tuesday, September 27th. After Dr. Shanbour checked me, much to our dismay, he told us that I was still not dilated, but was about 85% effaced. Since we had an induction scheduled for the next morning and I had no progress (as far as dilation goes), he wanted us to check in to the hospital that night. GULP!! What? Really? We really weren't prepared for that! He told us to go home, finish packing our hospital bags, go to a nice dinner, and come back around 8 pm.

We did. Here is how it went: Left Dr. office. Squealed all the way down on the elevator. Called parents. Freaked out. Called a few more people. Starting sweating profusely (OK-enough of all that, you get the point). Got home. Dealt with Roscoe. Showered. Finished packing bags. Ate at Olive Garden (we had great coupons!). Got done eating way before time to go to the hospital because we were so excited. Went to Barnes and Noble to kill time. Checked in at Mercy at 7:59 pm.

The nurses started me on an I.V., drew blood, and started the Cirvadil (to help me dilate). After a long night, Dr. Shanbour came in at about 9 am and said that the Cirvadil had worked and he broke my water. Zach and I were both very tired from the lack of sleep we got. We tried to get some more rest, but soon the pain started to set in. Not too bad though.

Around noon, things really started to pick up. I used some great breathing techniques that we learned in birthing class. They actually helped quite a bit! I knew that with each contraction, there was only about 30 seconds of REALLY strong pain. Contractions were getting stronger and closer. I didn't think I needed an epidural yet, so they gave me some pain medicine (I know, I'm a whimp). I was thinking it would just take the edge off of the pain...boy, was I wrong! I really couldn't feel hardly any pain for about an hour and a half. According to Zach and my mom, I guess I said some pretty funny things when I got the pain medicine.

**Funny things: Something about a great idea I had to make doll lawn chairs out of the old school metal flyswatters?? I also said that my stomach felt like it had "one of those things in it that held up tents"...yes, a pole.

The nurses were all sooo sweet and made sure I was as comfortable as possible at all times!

Later, probably around 3 or 4 I got my epidural. It was nothing. I got so nervous about it for nothing. Zach helped me to focus on him and not think about the ginormous thing going in my back. He was such a great support through the entire delivery, well through the entire pregnancy, for that matter!

EXCITEMENT BUILDING....

Finally, around 6:30 pm, the nurses said I was a 10 and ready to push!! Before I knew it, there were about 5 nursing students and a handful of other nurses in the room watching me push. OH JOY! No, I actually didn't really mind...it was the last thing on my mind at the time. Just looking back on it, you think...hmm, the "pushing face" is not anyones best look, haha!

When one of the nurses said they could see her head, I asked "Does she have hair?? Is it partable??" Everyone laughed and the nurse told me that she did have hair and she did, in fact, think it was partable!!

At about 7 Dr. Shanbour came in, just as casual as ever (I like that about him), drinking a bottle of water and said "How we doing Stace?" I really don't remember what I said in response, I just remember thinking how casual he walked in. That goes to show that the way you see it in movies and TV shows is always wrong. Anyways, he scrubbed in, put on his blue paper scrub things, arranged a few things how he preferred them, and then sat down.

He coached me through pushing for about 10-15 more minutes. Dr. Shanbour and all the nurses were so encouraging! It was such an exciting experience that I really truly enjoyed!....Then, with all the love in the world, Zach and I welcomed our blessing, our heaven sent, little Harper Jo into the world!! I don't think I can even try to explain all the joy, warmth, love, and grattitude I had in that moment. Zach cut the cord (which I didn't even see/don't remember) :( because I was busy kissing our sweet little girl. I guess I kept saying "baby girl, oh baby girl, hi sweet girl." That is what Zach says anyway.

Born September 28, 2011 at 7:16 pm. 7 lbs, 12 oz. 20.5 inches long.

They took her away and I watched as they cleaned her up and Zach took lots of pictures. She had a bit of respiratory distress, so they had her lay on my chest for skin to skin contact to regulate it. I was more than okay with that, however, Zach didn't get to hold her for about an hour and a half. He was about to go crazy! After we had some time, just the 3 of us (and after Zach held her for a while), we told the nurses to let the family in.

**I was told by the nurse to not let it get too loud...hmm, that was nearly impossible with all the family we had up there!! Luckily, the nurse said she would let us know if we were being too loud. She never did. :)

It was so nice of everyone to wait so patiently to see Harper! I think it was both of our parents, Ryan and Shayna, Tiffany and her 3 kids (Nate was out of town), and Ashlee and Molly. (Sorry if I left anyone out!)

Everyone "ohhed" and "awwed" and passed her around. She also had a constant poparazzi, of course. Ryan and Shayna went to get us Panera...ahh, food! It was so tasty, especially since I hadn't had any food since Olive Garden the night before!!

After everyone left, the nurse took Harper to bathe her. When she brought her back Zach and I could not believe her hair!!! It was adorable!! Zach took a picture and it is still (out of about 1500+ pictures) one of our very favorites. Oh, the joy that we had as we loved on our newborn babe. We will never forget it. She was finally here.

Well, that is the "short and sweet" version...which still turned out to be way longer than I had planned. If you stayed with me, thanks!!!

3 WEEKS OLD!!

Is my baby girl really 3 weeks old already??

I know I have been slacking, but for good reason.

Maybe tomorrow I will have the time/brains/energy to post about Harper's birth and her first 3 weeks.

In a nutshell though, it has been the best 3 weeks of our lives. Zach and I are taken with her.
